Webinar: presenting IoT and Crisis Preparedness White Paper
AIOTI organised a webinar on 18 July 2023 to present the paper the White Paper IoT and Crisis Preparedness which can be found here.
The main objective of this vision paper is to identify the steps to be followed to develop societal resilience toward short-term and long-term risks. The purpose is to showcase the best practices and insights needed to (1) SENSE, (2) RESPOND, (3) DEFEND, and (4) RECOVER within the IoT domain by involving all key stakeholders of this value chain. According to the World Health Organization, the emergency cycle is divided into four different phases: (1) Prevent; (2) Prepare; (3) Respond, and (4) Recover. Hence, this white paper aims to cover the four phases of emergency management as an integrated overview of four different fields of threats: 1. Pandemics and other Health-related threats, 2. Natural Disasters, 3. Cyber Attacks, and 4. Attacks on Public Spaces.

The 9th IEEE World Forum on the Internet of Things (WF-IoT 2023) seeks submissions and proposals for original technical papers and presentations that address the Internet of Things (IoT), its theoretical and technological building blocks, the applications that drive the growth and evolution of IoT, operational considerations, experimentation, experiences from deployments, and the impacts of IoT on consumers, the research community, the public sector, and commercial verticals.
The theme for WFIoT2023 is “The Blue Planet: A Marriage of Sea and Space”, encouraging the submissions of content aimed at exploring how IoT technologies, applications, and solutions relying on a wide ecosystem spanning space, aerial, ground, and maritime networks and harnessing the latest emerging technology trends can be leveraged for the benefit of society and humanity.

4th International Symposium on the Internet of Sounds (IS2 2023), 26-27 October 2023, Pisa, Italy
The Internet of Sounds is an emerging research field positioned at the intersection of the Internet of Things and the Sound and Music Computing domains. The symposium will bring together academics and industry to investigate and advance the development of Internet of Sounds technologies by using cutting-edge tools and processes. The event will consist of oral presentations, keynotes, poster presentations, demonstrations, as well as tutorials.
The event is co-organised by the University of Pisa and Cubit Innovation Labs.
Paper submission is open until 15 July 2023.

SCOPE AND MOTIVATION
The work for 6G Networks and Services has started and multiple activities are taking place at global level. Both evolutionary (from B5G networks onwards) and revolutionary approaches are followed to develop, test and validate innovative technological enablers that will enable the future networks vision at global scale. Some of the aspects investigated by different stakeholders address system architecture, wireless communication technologies and signal processing, communication infrastructure technologies and devices and secure service development.
Besides the technological aspects and technical innovations expected, 6G networks are also designed bearing in mind the key societal challenges that they must address including environmental, economic and societal sustainability and technological sovereignty. A wholistic system design approach has become necessary, addressing both technical and societal aspects and taking into account the complexities of the extended ICT infrastructure and services ecosystem (from vendors and operators, to service providers and individual users).
Within this global movement, Europe is attempting to take a leading role towards the creation of a hopefully single 6G global standard, both on a National level as well as on an EU-level. Some of the EU efforts in this sector can be reflected by the establishment of the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) as a legal and funding entity, as well as by the creation of several National Initiatives (NI) on a member-state level, through the funding of multi-million euro flagship projects, targeting technology development, fostering national innovation and maximization of business impact.
The SNS-JU targets a reinforced European leadership in the field of next generation network technologies (6G), connected devices and services, while accelerating European digital industry uptake and digitisation of economy and society. To that end, a first set of 35 Research and Innovation (R&I) projects have already been funded and started their operations, while multiple additional projects will be funded until the end of the SNS-JU program (2030) reaching a total of 1.8 Billion funding from the public and private EU sectors combined. Additional EU partnerships and associations addressing micro-electronics, AI and Robotics, photonics, high-performance computing and more, are working in collaboration with the SNS-JU and the NIs, covering all aspects of the necessary technology development for future 6G networks in a wholistic approach.
The goal of this symposium is to present the current advances and approaches to reach 6G and Future Networks vision in Europe and its respective R&I ecosystem, as well as the steps that have been taken to address different enabling technologies / technical enablers and the respective societal challenges. Moreover, the approach towards system-oriented R&I and dedicated prototyping and experimentation will be presented, complementing long-term R&I on disruptive concepts, considering also existing and future collaborations with other regions of the world.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
We invite original, high-quality research papers that address the aforementioned aspects for beyond 5G and 6G communication networks. The symposium aims to bring together researchers, practitioners, and industry experts to exchange ideas, discuss challenges, and propose solutions for the next-generation design of 6G networks.
We invite submissions on a wide range of research topics, spanning both theoretical and systems research, including results from industry and academic/industrial collaborations, related but not restricted to the following topics, presenting the actual work and future trends in the research and innovation on 6G in Europe:
Research for revolutionary technology advancements, in preparation for 6G and revolutionary advancements of IoT, devices and software.
Enablers and Proof of Concepts (PoCs) used to further develop, federate and consolidate experimental infrastructure(s), focusing on energy efficient technologies for 6G and open to integrate microelectronics developments coming from other programmes.
Large-scale Trials and Pilots with Verticals, including the required infrastructure. The aim is to explore and demonstrate technologies and advanced applications and services for the vertical domains, as well as the necessary architecture and technological enablers required for large experimentation facilities.
Relevant approaches to deal with societal challenges such as sustainability, energy efficiency, etc. across verticals, validating the exploitation of 6G across different vertical sectors, and its dual approach towards sustainability (6G for sustainability & sustainable 6G).
Collaboration approaches with other region on the world, cross-border testbed and experimentation initiatives/facilities.

SCOPE AND MOTIVATION
While the ongoing rollout of 5G will enable robust new solutions for a wide range of challenges, we are already on the way towards the next paradigm shift that will take us to the 6G era, giving rise to challenges beyond what even 5G can meet. New architecture enablers and vision are needed to make reality 6G as a trusted network platform for an ubiquitous cyber-physical continuum, with an updated set of capabilities, and emerging technologies trends to develop these capabilities. The workshop will like to stress the discussion about entirely new capability dimensions offering functionality beyond communication, such as spatio-temporal services and compute-AI services, fully automated management boosting future networks through convergence of compute and communication.
To make this vision a reality, a shift towards a full automation of network and service management and operation is a necessity. However, a major challenge facing full automation is the protection of the network and system assets (i.e., services, data and network infrastructure) against potential cybersecurity risks introduced by the unprecedented evolving 5G threat landscape. Indeed, the risk of full automation is the ability to replicate a small isolated error or attack broadly and rapidly, putting the entire critical ecosystem (multi-party/tenant/technologies) into peril.
The workshop is aimed at discussing the emerging 5G enablers towards rethinking of 6G in a holistic manner to understand the Challenges, Opportunities & Standardization Imperatives and define the way forward and immediate next steps to ensure ubiquitous adoption of 6G globally.

6G-PDN (6G Programmable Deterministic Networking with AI) Workshop co-locate with MobiHoc – Washington, Washington DC, USA, October 23-26, 2023
The aim of this workshop is to discuss the roadmap and challenges in the technological areas of deterministic communications and deep network programmability in 6G to support future end-to- end time-critical applications.
Call for papers
Creating a deterministic network, understood as end-to-end time sensitive, reliable, and predictable communications, remains a challenge for cellular networks, especially in an industrial context. Wired deterministic communication standards have already emerged including Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) and Deterministic Networking (DetNet) and 5G has specified mechanisms for interworking with those standards. However, the available support of 5G in conjunction with TSN and DetNet is not sufficient for future end-to-end time-critical applications.
Network programmability is key in supporting emerging 6G networks in achieving their promises of increased performance and flexibility at a lower cost. Deep network programmability is expected to characterize the new generation of mobile networks (6G), currently under development, towards supporting extreme performance requirements and service-specific operations.
Enriching next-generation mobile networks with data plane programming capabilities can bring significant benefits with regards to network slicing and multi-tenancy, dynamic traffic engineering, offloading network functions to the data plane, etc. Coupled with edge solutions and advanced machine learning algorithms for network automation can help to overcome network performance limits, e.g., in terms of latency and deterministic delivery.
This workshop aims to bring together academic and industry researchers to stimulate discussions, introduce news ideas and technical solutions in the aforementioned areas and therefore contribute to the progress of 6G networking research.

- Full Papers: Full papers should not exceed 6 pages (US letter size) double column including figures, tables, and references in standard ACM format.
- Extended abstracts: Extended abstracts should not exceed 3 pages (US letter size) double column including figures, tables, and references in standard ACM format. Accepted extended abstracts will be charged at the same rate as paper contributions.
Papers must be submitted electronically in printable PDF form. Templates for the standard ACM format can be found at this link. If you are using LaTeX, please refer to the sample file “sample-sigconf.tex” after you download the .zip templates file and unzip it. The mmNets workshop is focused on the design and implementation of new algorithms, protocols and systems for communication, networking and systems
in the millimeter-wave (mmWave) and terahertz (THz) bands. The scope of the workshop ranges from new ultra-broadband networks, which can enable
multi-Gbps and even Tbps throughput, ultra-low latency, and reliable wireless connectivity for beyond 5G and 6G cellular systems and wireless LANs, to new sensing systems with unprecedented resolution and innovative features enabled by the electromagnetic properties of radiation above 100
GHz. The workshop will bring together researchers from devices, communications and signal processing, wireless networking, and mobile and sensing applications to set the future research agenda of mmWave and THz systems, and present innovative ideas that will help realize the vision of extremely high data rate, ultra-low latency, and reliable mmWave networks and novel advanced sensing applications.
