The 2nd AIOTI Annual Workshop on Semantic Interoperability for Digital Twins was held on Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 March 2026 at IHP GmbH – Leibniz Institute for Innovative Microelectronics in Frankfurt (Oder), Germany.
The event convened industry professionals, representatives from standards organizations, and members of the research community to examine practical strategies for advancing Digital Twins. Over the course of two intensive days, participants took part in dynamic discussions and collaborative sessions, sharing perspectives on key challenges and emerging opportunities in the domain.
A major outcome of the workshop was the drafting of a Manifesto for Reusable Ontologies, intended to encourage greater consistency and interoperability across initiatives.
The programme addressed several central themes, including semantic interoperability, FAIR-aligned ontologies, and compliance testing. Participants also considered the growing influence of artificial intelligence—particularly large language models and agentic AI—in the evolution of semantic technologies. Furthermore, discussions highlighted the importance of vendor neutrality and the effective management of semantic assets throughout their lifecycle.
Overall, the workshop enabled meaningful exchanges and represented a significant step toward better alignment across the Digital Twin ecosystem.
