HIGHLIGHTS
Energy-6G Convergence: a Perspective
The energy sector is undergoing a profound transformation driven by decarbonization, electrification, decentralization, and digitalization. At the same time, 6G is emerging not just as a faster network, but as an intelligent, sustainable, and human-centric digital infrastructure.
In the latest White Paper published by the AIOTI Energy Working Group, named ‘Energy-6G Convergence: A Perspective’ there is an exploration of how these two transitions converge and why 6G can become a foundational enabler of future energy systems but only if it is aligned with the safety-critical, long-lived, and sustainability-driven nature of energy infrastructures.
A central conclusion of this paper is that observability, security, and sustainability are pre-requisites for trust. Without standardized energy and carbon metrics that link communication services to measurable energy-system outcomes, the contribution of 6G to the energy transition cannot be credibly assessed.

SCODIHNet Updates
The Smart Connectivity DIH Network has mainly worked on the following topics
1/ The first meeting of the year took place on the 13th January, the agenda addressed the following topics 1. Update of the Vertical Engagement Tracker (VET): The SNS VET has been updated with the integration of the Replicability information. Now, DIHs and any users could easily filter the replicable use cases. For SNS projects which want to introduce a new replicable use case, they can use the Online Replicability Assessment Tool (RAT) available to determine the Replicability Level (RL). This RL is then attached to the corresponding use case.
2. Cooperation with the DTA TWG Smart Connectivity, EDIH 2.0: Andrea Aler Tubella (chair of the Smart Connectivity Thematic Work Group) reports that the EDIH 2.0 is just started, the new support action in charge of managing EDIH 2.0 is putting in place a new WG organization trying to avoid gaps and overlaps. In the next weeks, this new organization and the corresponding WG will be setup.
3. First results of the survey to update the expectations of DIHs: The 2 groups SCoDIHNet and SCTWG have launched a survey in order to capture the DIH expectations in terms of services. The first results show that the 5 key services are Co-development of proposals for EU calls (12), Community building and awareness (11), Technology updates and use cases (10), EU instruments and calls information (8) and Strategy development (8).
4. Action plan: Living update of the catalogues and identification of the concrete actions that both groups will be able to cover the 5 key services needs.
2/ Since the beginning of the year, 3 projects have already provided 5 replicable use cases with the corresponding replicability levels, they are available in the Vertical Engagement Tracker. The VET is now encompassing 36 replicable use cases provided by SNS JU projects.

Scaling up CEI Pilots: Discover the Open Calls of O-CEI and COP-PILOT
12 February 2026 | 11:00am – 12:30pm CET
Online webinar
Turning Cloud–Edge–IoT research into real-world impact often depends on access to the right funding mechanisms, partners and deployment opportunities. Open calls play a crucial role in this process, enabling innovators to scale pilots, validate technologies and reach new markets.
This joint webinar, organised within the CEI-Sphere framework, brings together O-CEI and COP-PILOT to provide a strategic overview of their open call activities. The session will highlight lessons learned from O-CEI’s first open call and present the scope and objectives of COP-PILOT’s upcoming call, offering participants a clearer picture of how these initiatives support the scaling of CEI pilots.
Rather than focusing on procedural details, the webinar will emphasise how to approach open calls strategically, how to design strong proposals, and how joint initiatives can amplify visibility and impact across the CEI ecosystem.

INSTAR Interview Series: Antonio de la Oliva Delgado
The following is an interview with Antonio de la Oliva Delgado, Associate Professor at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and an active member of the INSTAR 5G+/6G Task Force. Antonio brings extensive experience in wireless communications and standardization, contributing to the advancement of next-generation network technologies.
He is currently involved in IEEE 802.11, focusing on enhancing privacy features for WLANs, and actively follows work in IETF, 3GPP, and ETSI on Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC).
In addition, Antonio leads one of the ORIS SNS projects, exploring how sensing can be integrated into 5G Advanced and 6G networks.

EVENTS
2nd AIOTI Annual Workshop on Semantic Interoperability for Digital Twins
We invite you to participate in the 2nd AIOTI Annual Workshop on Semantic Interoperability for Digital Twins, with a special focus on Reusability and Compliance.
📅 Dates: Tuesday 24 & Wednesday 25 March 2026 (full days)
📍 Venue: IHP GmbH – Leibniz-Institut für innovative Mikroelektronik
Im Technologiepark 25, 15236 Frankfurt (Oder), Germany
Closest airport: Berlin
The workshop brings together industry, standards bodies, and research communities to discuss practical solutions for semantic interoperability in Digital Twins. A key outcome will be the development of a Manifesto for Reusable Ontologies.
Topics include:
Semantic interoperability for Digital Twins; reusable and FAIR ontologies; compliance, validation, and conformance testing; lifecycle and governance of semantic assets; scaling interoperability across domains; standards and vendor neutrality; and the role of AI (including LLMs and agentic AI) in semantics.
Submissions:
We invite expressions of interest to participate in the workshop and proposals for talks, posters, demos, panels, breakout sessions, and lightning talks.
Please submit your expression of interest by 31 January 2026 via the online submission form.

HEMS test event with TNO and Elaad, in Arnhem, NL
This event, taking place on the 12th and the 13th of February is an excellent opportunity to show everyone’s capabilities to parties in the energy world. And to see how products and services can work together with devices such as charging stations, inverters, heat pumps and home batteries. There is also a lot of room to network, and stay involved in the development of standards and open source connectors for energy management.
The use-cases focus on grid congestion, dynamic energy prices and optimal use of energy generated by PV / solar panels..
