Democratic Use of AI Standardisation and its Future Workshop
On Monday 20th September, together with the Japan Business Council in Europe, we had the pleasure of hosting the “Democratic Use of AI Standardisation and its Future” workshop, bringing together leading experts from Europe and Japan to discuss one of the most important topics today: AI standardisation.
Throughout the workshop, speakers shared valuable perspectives on how AI standardisation can support innovation while ensuring trust, safety and overview of the current challenges. Some of the key insights from the discussions included:
- AI conformity assessment will become increasingly important. Establishing common approaches to evaluating AI systems is essential for ensuring safety, transparency, and accountability.
- Personal AI agents are becoming part of everyday life. Just as smartphones transformed how we interact with technology, personal AI agents may soon become commonplace, making robust standards around privacy, security, customisation, and situational awareness more important than ever.
- AI governance must evolve alongside increasingly networked AI agents. As AI systems interact with one another, governance frameworks will need to address new levels of complexity and responsibility.
- AI is already transforming industry. From manufacturing to energy-efficient data centres, organisations are developing AI-powered solutions that demonstrate the technology’s potential when combined with domain expertise.

SCODIHNet Updates
The Smart Connectivity DIH Network has worked on the following topics:
- SNS JU Stream D projects have been invited to make a presentation of their replicable use cases at one of the next SCoDIHNet Meetings. The objective is to facilitate the adoption by DIHs of the use cases developed by the projects.SNS JU Stream D projects have already developed 58 replicable use cases with a good level of replicability according to the replicability assessment tool, they are covering most of the verticals and should be very useful to DIHs to perform their objective to accelerate the digitalization of the European Industry.
- An event ‘Scaling Digital Health Solutions: Connecting TEFs, EDIHs and DIGITAL for Health Innovation’ took place on the 7th of July. The presentation slides and the event recording are available on both the DEDEP.eu and CoordinaTEF websites. Cooperation between TEF and EDIHs for the 4 verticals (agri-food, healthcare, manufacturing as well as smart cities and communities) are key to give the opportunities to EDIHs to use these experimental facilities to develop innovative use cases for end users.

PUBLICATIONS
StandICT/AIOTI Report on IoT Standardisation Gaps Release 2
Together with StandICT, AIOTI has published a report presenting an approach to identifying and addressing key IoT standardisation gaps across multiple initiatives. Building on the methodology introduced in the first release, Release 2 expands the analysis with new challenges related to Edge IoT and Industrial Immersive Technologies, maps additional standards and specifications developed by Standards Developing Organisations (SDOs), and assesses how comprehensively these challenges are covered. The report aims to support a structured discussion within the EUOS, AIOTI, and the wider IoT standardisation community by providing technical guidance and recommendations to strengthen interoperability and future standardisation efforts.

PROJECT NEWS
Integration of charging stations in fleet management for V2G Services Workshop
7 October 2026 | Brussels
Beyond simply connecting vehicles to the grid, charging stations are evolving into intelligent, interconnected assets that exchange data in real time, support new energy services, and contribute to more flexible and sustainable energy systems. To adapt system efficiencies, fleet managers need to become more responsive to changes in demand and supply and more integrating variable renewable generation assets as well as batteries.
The workshop will address the implementation of a digital platform being at the heart of the V2G management, creating a real-time operational nervous system that connects key aspects of utility operations like flexible capacity management, demand-response, voltage control etc. with operational targets of the fleet, which could become a complex task.

AIOTI joins the INCLUDE project to help shape Europe’s Computing Continuum
We are excited to be part of the INCLUDE project, a new European initiative that brings together the Cloud, Edge, IoT and Telco communities to foster collaboration towards a more open, interoperable and sustainable Computing Continuum.
The project officially kicked off last month in Heidelberg, Germany, where consortium partners met to align their vision, establish the first activities and lay the foundations for the next 36 months of collaboration.
AIOTI’s contributions to INCLUDE:
- Leveraging AIOTI’s extensive ecosystem to connect technology providers, users and adopters across key sectors including health, agriculture, manufacturing and mobility.
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement and alignment across the Telco Edge Cloud 3C ecosystem, ensuring that technological developments are supported by socio-economic, market and policy perspectives.
- Support continuous dialogue among industry, research, standardisation bodies and policy makers through workshops, webinars, consultations and community-building activities.
- Enable access to strategic European ecosystems and initiatives, including AIOTI Working Groups, 6G-IA, BDVA/ADRA ecosystems, and open-source communities.
