Mission and Vision:

Identify green transition and climate challenges and provide AI, IoT and Edge continuum technologies and solutions that will provide opportunities to the solution of these challenges.

Scope:

Agriculture, fisheries, forestry, biodiversity, monitoring the environmental impact

Objectives:

Policies and standards

Contribute to the development of the EU policies and standards in agriculture, fishery and forestry.

Contribute to the agrifood data ecosystems, comprising of data spaces, data marketplaces and digital twins leveraging on data sharing.

Provide input and feedback on issues like provenance of food, environmental footprint associated with food production (e.g. greenhouse emissions, use of pesticides and fertilisers, use of irrigation), and data related to animal welfare and health.

Provide input on how AI, IoT, Edge computing and digital technology can be enablers to reduce the carbon footprint of agricultural activities.

Provide input on data sharing as a key element to strengthen the supply chains in Europe.

Working on digital tools (both software and cyber-physical systems) for a simplified and effective implementation of the European Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

Identify gaps in interoperability and standardization.

Research and Innovation

Create the opportunities for collaborative research and innovation for our community and facilitate consortia building for EU funded projects in the areas of  agriculture, fisheries and forestry.

Collaborate with other relevant organisations and EU funded partnerships (such as in SNS, chips etc.) to create proof of concepts (PoCs) and pilots in the areas of agriculture, fisheries, forestry and environmental monitoring including Testing and experimentation facilities (TEFs and living labs) and Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs) and engage with agri-food flagship projects.

Technology

Identify key technological developments and gaps in in the areas of agriculture, fisheries, forestry and environmental monitoring, including:

Architectures and standards for data sharing, digital twins, specific requirements of AI, IoT and Edge Computing (e.g. connectivity in remote areas, low-power solutions), robots, AI-based data processing, smart sensing approaches for portable food safety/quality analysis, application of mobile devices in agrifood (e.g. augmented reality, advanced image processing), biodiversity monitoring technologies.
