StandICT.eu & AIOTI Webinar “Connecting the dots in the evolving IoT & Edge Computing Standards Landscape”
On 8 July 2025, StandICT.eu and AIOTI hosted an insightful webinar focused on the 2025 IoT & Edge Standards Landscape Reports. The event highlighted the rapid advancements in IoT and Edge Computing, and the crucial role of standardisation in aligning innovation with interoperability across Europe and globally.
The webinar showcased the results of ongoing collaboration through the Technical Working Group on IoT and Edge, which has mapped and analysed the global standards ecosystem. This joint effort culminated in the publication of two updated landscape reports, identifying recent developments, gaps, and strategic priorities in the IoT and Edge space.
Key discussions focused on:
- The major Standards Development Organisations (SDOs) currently shaping the future of IoT and Edge.
- Strategic insights for policymakers, researchers, standardisation professionals, SMEs, and industry stakeholders.
- How European stakeholders can better engage with and influence global standardisation.
Attendees gained valuable guidance on leveraging standards as tools for innovation, compliance, and competitiveness in a fast-evolving digital ecosystem. The 2025 reports are now available and serve as essential references for those looking to stay ahead in the ICT standards landscape.
The webinar presentation can be found here, and the recording here.

AI in Manufacturing
AIOTI WG Manufacturing published a paper about AI in Manufacturing.
The integration of Artificial Intelligence in this ambit is fundamentally transforming industrial paradigms, driving the convergence of productivity objectives with regulatory compliance, sustainability imperatives, and human-centric innovation.
The transition toward Industry 5.0 represents a paradigmatic shift from pure digitalisation to human-centric manufacturing, where AI transcends its traditional role as an automation tool to become a collaborative enabler between humans and machines. The Cloud-Edge-IoT (CEI) continuum architecture serves as the technological foundation for this evolution.
Nevertheless, significant challenges remain in areas of data interoperability, cybersecurity frameworks, and AI modeling.
The emerging agentic AI paradigm promises the development of fully autonomous systems capable of sophisticated goal-oriented behaviour, complex decision-making processes, and independent task execution.
The Role of remote monitoring sensors
AIOTI WG Health published a paper on remote monitoring sensors.
This technology is quietly revolutionising how we care for ourselves and others. From monitoring chronic conditions at home to predicting falls in elderly patients, these technologies offer real-time insights that empower individuals and caregivers alike. Elderly persons can live more independently, patients recovering from surgery can be monitored from home, and healthcare professionals can make better-informed decisions with real-time data at their disposition.
This transformation has been embraced also at the institutional level. European regulatory frameworks like the GDPR and the upcoming AI Act are setting the stage for responsible and ethical deployment of these systems.
However, questions of data privacy, technological readiness, and equitable access must be answered with urgency. Despite of this, the promise is clear: remote monitoring sensors are enablers of a healthier, more connected society where health and well-being are continuously supported, regardless of place, age, or ability.
PROJECTS NEWS
EU-ROK Synergies at the INSTAR-TTA Workshop in Nice
On 27 March 2025 in Nice, INSTAR and South Korea’s Telecommunication Technology Association (TTA) convened their inaugural joint workshop—“Collaboration on International ICT Standardisation: Joint Roadmap Development”—marking an important step following the MoU signed six months prior. The full-day event united experts from both regions to align on common priorities spanning 5G+/6G, AI, cybersecurity, digital identity, data technologies, IoT and quantum.
Looking ahead, INSTAR and TTA plan to update their joint identified priorities ahead of the TTA conference in Seoul (3–5 November 2025), before its official release in December 2025. This collaboration underscores growing EU–ROK alignment on critical ICT standardisation fronts with global ripple effects.
CEI-Sphere Market Talk on Manufacturing
On the 16th July CEI-Sphere organized the final session of the Market Talk series, spotlighting one the manufacturing sector.
Drawing on in-depth market analyses, CEI-Sphere has developed a series of insights to contextualise how Cloud-Edge-IoT (CEI) solutions are reshaping key industries. The manufacturing sector stands out as a domain where digital transformation is now essential.
In this session, it will be explored explore how CEI technologies are enabling:
- IT/OT convergence and smarter factories
- Predictive maintenance and energy-efficient production
- AI-driven decision-making and real-time analytics
There were also an examination of the persistent barriers to transformation, from legacy infrastructure and cybersecurity to the digital skills gap.
