AIOTI WG Agriculture has released its new White Paper on EU Agristack: Promoting a European technology stack for agri-tech based on open-source.
This white paper seeks to address this gap by mapping the agricultural tech landscape, highlighting key strengths and weaknesses, and suggesting practical steps towards a sovereign agricultural technology stack. Recent policy research efforts have strived to map key EU strengths and dependencies across the whole EU tech stack, suggesting large-scale policy actions (Bria et al. 2025).
Zooming in on the agricultural sector, this document identifies and classifies the digital solutions developed through European initiatives, mapping them across the different layers of an EU AgriStack architecture from physical infrastructure to enabling, application, and transversal technologies. Building on this mapping exercise, the paper also performs a gap analysis to identify critical technological areas where Europe still displays dependency on non-European solutions. The results of the analysis allow the formulation of policy recommendations supporting a sovereign European digital ecosystem for agriculture.
