AIOTI provided a feedback to the Industrial Accelerator Act.
AIOTI welcomes the European Commission’s Industrial Accelerator Act and strongly supports its objective of accelerating industrial decarbonisation while enhancing Europe’s competitiveness. The organisation argues that digital technologies—including the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), edge and cloud computing, digital twins, advanced connectivity, automation, and industrial data spaces—are essential enablers of the green transition. AIOTI therefore calls for the Act to explicitly recognise the role of these technologies in reducing emissions, improving energy efficiency, optimising resource use, and increasing industrial resilience.
To maximise the impact of industrial decarbonisation efforts, AIOTI advocates for greater interoperability, secure industrial data sharing, and the development of common European digital infrastructures. It also highlights the importance of supporting SMEs through improved access to EU funding, innovation and testing facilities, digital skills programmes, and deployment support for digital and green technologies. Furthermore, AIOTI stresses that successful decarbonisation depends on secure and resilient digital infrastructure, including investments in edge-to-cloud systems, 5G and future connectivity networks, industrial cybersecurity, and energy-efficient digital solutions.
At the same time, AIOTI raises concerns about potential “Made in Europe” requirements and procurement provisions that could disrupt global automotive supply chains. The organisation notes that European vehicle manufacturers rely on internationally integrated design, development, and sourcing networks to remain competitive in areas such as electric vehicles, software-defined vehicles, and autonomous driving. Rather than introducing barriers to global supply chains, AIOTI recommends strengthening Europe’s competitiveness through research, innovation, and technological capabilities while maintaining access to essential non-EU technologies and components. Overall, AIOTI supports the Act’s objectives but urges policymakers to align industrial, digital, and sustainability policies while safeguarding innovation and the competitiveness of Europe’s mobility sector.
