AIOTI Webinar presenting AI in Energy Paper
AIOTI WG Energy held on 3 April the webinar presenting the AI in Energy paper.
The paper focuses on the potential and challenges of leveraging AI across various segments of the energy landscape and stakeholders, including generation, distribution, and consumption within smart grids. Through comprehensive and dynamically evolving digital infrastructures the advanced data analytics, real-time monitoring, and predictive modelling, AI enhances the flexibility, reliability, and efficiency of energy systems.
The convergence of AI and 6G technologies is particularly critical in optimising the performance of renewable energy sources, rolling out smart grid solutions to ensure grid stability, and fostering a resilient energy ecosystem. Key insights from this paper highlight the rapidly evolving role of AI in driving energy innovations, addressing challenges and policy and standardisation aspects, the ethical and cybersecurity considerations that accompany the deployment of AI solutions and technologies. The system and digital technologies stakeholders are embracing the full potential of AI to create a cleaner, smarter, and more resilient energy.

INSTAR Interview Series
Conversations with the INSTAR task force standardisation experts shaping Europe’s digital future.
As part of our effort to highlight the work carried out within the INSTAR Task Forces, we are launching a new series of interviews featuring the INSTAR task Force experts who are shaping the future of digital policy and innovation across Europe and beyond.
Every Friday, we bring you original insights directly from our INSTAR Task Force experts, with perspectives you won’t find anywhere else online.
Through these conversations, we aim to shed light on their contributions, challenges, and ideas, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the work being done across the INSTAR task forces.
We are pleased to launch our interview series with Erik Andersen, an independent consultant active in international standardisation, with a focus on cybersecurity.
Erik is both a CYBERSTAND.eu-funded expert in the 1st SSP, working on the “Migration of cryptographic algorithms for cybersecurity”, and a member of the INSTAR Cybersecurity/eID Task Force.
Erik: It’s a pleasure to be here and contribute to this interview.
My CYBERSTAND.eu-funded work focuses on the Migration of cryptographic algorithms for cybersecurity and decentralising Public Key Infrastructure (DPKI). PKI has been around for many, many years. The first ever came in 1988 and it’s been used widely. Decentralized PKI represents an effort to make it possible to generate many PKI domains into a single, federated PKI based on blockchain.
Luigi: What is the expected result once this work has been performed, what do you think is going to be the impact on the current landscape?
Erik: It will be necessary to migrate big areas at the same time like a whole country or maybe the whole EU and therefore it would be important if the EU would adopt the same approach. So I think that my aim is that this could be input to the European Commission to have a common approach in the EU.

PQ-REACT project | Open Call#2-IMPLEMENT has been launched
On behalf of the PQ-REACT project (Post Quantum Cryptography Framework for Energy-Aware Contexts), I am pleased to inform you that its second open call – Open Call#2-Implement, has been launched.
PQ-REACT’s primary objective is to design, develop, and validate a framework for a faster and simpler transition from classical to post-quantum cryptography for a broad spectrum of contexts and usage domains.
PQ-REACT will foster a series of open calls for SMEs, Universities, Research Centers and other stakeholders to bring and test their PQC algorithms and external use cases on the PQ-REACT framework and to develop and provide innovative solutions to address the specific challenges of the project in terms of PQC computational complexity and energy efficiency.
PQ-REACT’s second Open Call 2 – IMPLEMENT is calling quantum innovators to develop and implement solutions that address cryptographic encryptions based on classic algorithms that currently protect data and infrastructure.
The second open call is available only to consortia. We expect a mini-consortium between two or a maximum of three partners, from which one represents an SME and one technical provider (Start-ups & SMEs, Universities and Research centers, NGOs, or Foundations).
There are 4 use cases that the applicants can choose based on their expertise.
Use case 1: Smart Grid Meters
Use case 2: 5G and 6G architectures
Use case 3: Context Agility Manager (PQC Benchmarking)
Use case 4: Eclipse-Qrisp for PQC
This is the final Open Call of the PQ-REACT project. Applications must be submitted via the Sploro Platform at this link:
PQ-REACT team remains at your disposal for any future information, you may contact us at applications@pqreact.eu.
