On 26-27 November 2024, AIOTI actively participated in the INSTAR and CEI-Sphere Workshop on Cross-Domain Standardisation and Architecture for IoT and Edge Computing which gathered participants from across Europe. The session focused on gaps in standardisation across different domains, relevant industry stakeholders and the international standardization activities in EU involvement to foster cross-fertilization between ongoing IoT and edge computing projects.
The workshop promoted a common angle on standardisation at the international level by collaborating with relevant international entities in the definition/creation of international standards in key emerging technologies. Key standardisation committees and initiatives, such as ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 41 (SC41) and SAREF.
During the event, Damir Filipovic, AIOTI Secretary General, moderated the panel on “Assessing conformity: A new European trust label for Cloud-Edge-IoT” and highlighted the importance of a trust label across the CEI ecosystems that guarantees a minimum level of interoperability and portability with existing legacy systems, energy efficiency, and potential dual-use.
Following the discussion, Antonio Kung, Trialog, AIOTI WG Standardisation Chair, who defined the challenges and actions for a Cloud-Edge-IoT Trust Label and the importance of having consensus from supply and demand sides, a clear methodology with criteria and indicators, and alignment with regulatory support to ensure its effectiveness.
This event marked a significant step towards reinforcing Europe’s role in shaping global standards, emphasizing collaboration.
